Perspective.

Gatlinburg, TN.
A place that is near and dear to our heart. We honeymooned there, and the area has a lot of sentimental value to each of our families. We visited the great smokies for Memorial Day weekend and got to reminisce of a simpler time.

We hiked up to Laurell Falls. Terrible idea- for me at least. I wore Madison on the way up and down in her Moby. The stubborn mother that I am would not let anyone help me or relieve of my duties. I set out to carry her up and down, and I did. She did wonderful and enjoyed the sites. The falls were a little crowded, but still enjoyable.

It was such a great weekend of relaxation and fellowship. We took it easy and woke up slow, the way vacations should be. We browsed downtown a bit and went up the sky lift to get a better view of the mountains. They were so majestic. They reminded me a little bit of how God's perspective is. When we are down off the mountain in the crowds and worries of life we cannot see the majesty surrounding us. But when we step back, or up in this case, we can see his glory surrounding us in the big picture. When we join God and try to see things from an eternal view, we are able to rejoice in his beauty. Of course life is life, and we get caught up in stuff, but the valley is where the battle is happening. Where war is being waged on souls. Mountains wouldn't be mountains without valleys in between.

A time to craft...

I was lucky to have a little bit of a crafting outlet this past week. It was fun to be "back in the saddle" for a bit and make these cuties for a little guy and his big sister. I really hope their mommy enjoys them! They had their photos taken by my sister, Photos By Moe, this past Saturday. Can't wait to see how they turn out!

Next up? Chevron mini zipper pouches. Bazinga

Oh, and how's that diet going? Terrible.
Vacation really threw it out of whack. More on that later.

Baby Clothes: A Quick Tip

Saving money is crucial when you are a parent. Being frugal and pushing your dime is something you have to learn to do. I have learned that with Madison's clothes. A quick tip to save money on those adorable outfits they were once??? Save them. Use dresses as shirts later on, and pants as capris. Easy as that! Don't throw out, or stow away old clothes - save them and rework them into new outfits!! Above is Madison wearing a dress at 3 months, and a shirt at 13 months!!

My One Page Miracle

With the Daniel Plan that I mentioned here a little while back, we have been encouraged to write (type) out our motivation for doing so. Welp, here goes nothing.

I have been doing this thing for about two weeks. It's not been wonderfully easy, but it's been beneficial. I have been doing what Rick Warren calls a "drug holiday" which means no sugar, caffeine, high fructose corn syrup, or processed foods. Can I tell you that I just feel better? It's amazing what eating healthy can do for your mentality. I have more energy. I'm fitting into my clothes better. This is great!
s
I do have times where I want a coke, or something sweet to snack on. The weekends are the hardest. Eating is such a social thing, and I just want to go out to eat with friends, have a coke at that birthday party, eat a chicken nugget... It's not the cake, donuts, or brownies that tempt me. Oddly enough it's my coke & sweet tea- but only on the weekends.

This process has been made easier because I'm doing the Body by Vi shakes, too. Super easy. It's like a mommy's wonder diet. I just fix me a shake and can sip on it as I go. I don't have to prepare this intricate meal, sit down and eat, or clean up from cooking. I just pop it in my blender and go. Shoot, sometimes I just put it in a tumbler and shake it.

I'm encouraged because my friends and family seem to be noticing a difference.

God has really helped me with this journey. After giving myself a year of grace, I was just ready. Ready to lose the baby weight. Ready to be fit again. Ready to run & work out.

Silver Turtles: An easy summer meal!

My family has adopted this really fun grilling recipe that I have stolen from an ex boyfriend. I'm going to claim it as my own, though. This recipe originated as a horse ranch campfire meal and has evolved into a backyard grill out meal.

We love it! It is so easy, and clean up is pretty much a breeze. Not to mention the deliciousness of it all!

You can use any veggies you like. Our veggies of choice include
(some, not all, and any combination in between)

Potatoes
Broccoli
Corn
Carrots
Bell Peppers
Onions
Zucchini
Squash

To prep, you dice, slice, peel, and prep all your vegetables and set them up buffet style for all your guests to add to their silver turtle. I divi up the meat onto aluminum foil for everyone and let each person to choose their own.

Your guests create their own silver turtle with the combination of their favorite veggies. There is no science to it at all, you just pile it on!

This creation is called "silver turtle" for a reason. The intention is to make a shape of an animal of your choice so that you can easily identify your silver turtle in the campfire. Well, my family is super sophisticated (ahem, lazy) so we just fold them up and write our names on the bottom. When the kids get older, I imagine we will be more kid friendly and make fun shapes!
Husband chose to identify mine for me this Mother's Day!

Place your Silver Turtle on the grill for about twenty to thirty minutes.
The grease from the meat flavors and cooks the veggies to a superb grilled perfection. My favorite part is the charred vegetables  You can add BBQ sauce, steak sauce, or sprinkle some salt. You can also add the flavor before you grill. My family does both!

Talk about delicious? Yes. This is the best summer grillin' meal you've ever tasted!

I guess ex boyfriends are good for something!

My seconds ;)

The fun part about having Alli on our team is that now all of the co-hosts have baby girls very close in age! We need to plan a get together so they can all meet. Wouldn't that be fun!

This week we are welcoming Ashley from Love and Lighthouses as our guest host! You must stop by and meet Ashley and her adorable baby boy!
